aagghhhh.......many dresses, lots of cupcake looking things, and finally.....perfect. We all just said "this it it". I mean it we ALL 3 said "this is it". Shannon cried, I cried, and we are one step closer.
Meghan is proving to be one heck of a maid of honor and was so patient during the whole thing of getting Shannon into and out of the (they are actually complicated!)dresses. She also came through beautifully in the bridesmaid dress choice and we all 3 even agreed on that!
Funny....tonight Pat sent me an e-mail with 3 pictures of his new basketball shoes. I mean it..close ups of the bottoms, the lettering, all arranged so nicely on his computer chair. I am enjoying a few moments of balance. Pat is in his first year of law school but is still managing to put his shoes as a priority and I spent a lovely Saturday with the two girls planning a wedding. Right now, right this minute, wouldn't change any of it.

Well today is wedding dress day. When Shannon was in high school she used to have me bring 3 prom dresses home and she would pick one. This isn't quite like that but....let's just say that Meghan has tried on a few to "weed out" the ones that Shannon won't like. So far we have narrowed down everything to what is really important.....Shannon does NOT want to wear high heels and she does not want a dress that she has to "fiddle" with all the time. On the other hand Meghan (as maid of honor) will only wear a short dress if she wears Jimmy Choo (or similar) high heels and fiddling is not an issue. I wonder if Mimosas are tacky for me to discreetly sip at the bridal stores?
In all seriousness...I am looking forward to this day. I am going to try and take-in every moment and tuck it away for me to peruse at my leisure. I discovered this week that I missed my Mom all over again. She has been gone since November and she would of so enjoyed this process. I can just hear her "Oh Shannon". I am certain she will be with us.

thanksgiving beginning
see, we have a wedding coming up and I am an irritating, over-involved mother, so......perhaps this will release some turmoil and spare my family.
Shannon (the oldest) is marrying Adam. Adam is self possessed, not overly emotional, and in general....an engineer. Thanksgiving was my first true indication of how this match might pan out.
Thanksgiving is always a great time to bring out the "interesting" sides of family personalities. Shannon and Adam were not engaged yet but the relationship was official enough that he of course was with us.
Lots of cooking with all 3 kids here (Shannon, Patrick, and Meghan),I was a bit more over the top than usual due to losing my Mom 3 weeks prior, boyfriend (mine!) and his mother coming, all in all a good time for wine.
Shannon will be a teacher soon and dresses the part. Conservative and comfortable pretty much sums it up. She dressed for dinner and came out completely unaware that her sister,Meghan, was ready for her. Shannon had on a nice skirt that actually was above the knee and here is the kicker....she had on boots. Yup....boots!
Meghan calmly gave her the once over and said "you look like a prostitute". Meghans aim was perfect and Shannon burst into tears and promptly ran to Adam to tell him they had to leave...immediately! Now you gotta picture Adam. He has ensconsed himself on the family room couch, a bottle of beer in hand, and contentedly perusing Sports Illustrated. Shannon is in full flounce mode and I found it interesting that Adam didn't even lift his head. Since Adam kept his head down Shannon next came to me. "Mom, you have to talk to Meghan and tell her to say she is sorry". Figured that was doable so tiptoed to Meghans room...."sweetie, just tell your sister you're sorry". "She looks like a prostitue" was her reply.
Went back to Shannon and she said "well?". I said "honey I don't think she is sorry but I am".
More of Shannon telling Adam to get up, they are leaving. More of me sippping wine and running back and forth, More of Adam sipping his beer, more of me sipping wine.
Finally I just drank wine. Meanwhile Meghan and Shannon come back into the room and Meghan is discussing the possibility of borrowing Shannons boots at a later date.
It really isn't the boots. It's Adam. Perfect....finally we get someone in our family who keeps his head down! I asked him later how he did it....answered simply "I wasn't going anywhere until I finished my beer".
